Colin C. Cameron Award History
MEDB has created the Colin C. Cameron Award recognizing Colin’s leadership and vision in founding MEDB and advancing its vision in the community and state. He was MEDB’s first chair and served in that position for nearly 10 years until his untimely death in 1991. The Colin C. Cameron Award is presented to deserving individuals whom the board feels has made outstanding contributions to strengthening and diversifying Maui County’s economy. Since its inception in 1994, the award has been presented to: Senator Mamoru Yamasaki; Representative Joseph Souki; Mayor Hannibal Tavares; Mr. Don Malcolm; Mr. Michael H. Lyons II; and Senator Daniel K. Inouye. It is not presented every year.
2004 Mr. Masaru “Pundy” Yokouchi
Founding member of MEDB; presented in recognition of his longstanding work in support of the arts in Maui County—the cornerstone of our community’s economic health
Mr. Yokouchi is a founding member of MEDB and noted community leader. Among his many affiliations include past chair of the Hawai`i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, chair and founder of the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. He was the 2002 recipient of the Sidney R. Yates Advocacy Award (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) for devoting his life to advocating for the arts and arts education, enriching the lives of citizens with his creative leadership.

2001 The Honorable Daniel K. Inouye
Presented to the Senator in recognition of the his steadfast support of Maui’s diversification efforts

Presented to the former Mayor Tavares who spearheaded MEDB’s formation with Colin Cameron
1996 Mr. Donald Malcolm
MEDB’s founding president with a decade-long tenure, and later Chair of the Board
1994 Representative Joseph Souki and Senator Mamoru Yamasaki
Presented jointly in recognition of their visionary leadership in securing funding for the state funded Maui Research & Technology Center
