While Maui county has a higher than average elder
population, but a lower than average number of long-term
care beds, this issue is being resolved through creative
measures, such as foster care for seniors. It also
reflects the cultural influences of extended families
living together and ohanas (or in-law apartments that
truly are for the in-laws).
