Infrastructure Maui Research & Technology Park

Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP), located at the base of the 10,023-ft. Haleakala, sits on a prime parcel of approximately 415 acres in the heart of Kihei, Maui. The MRTP was the vision of a core group of community leaders in the early 80's and is now the locus for technology activity for the Maui community. Efforts to diversify Maui’s economy by creating the requisite infrastructure (like the MRTP) was made possible via public/private alliances. MRTP houses incubator companies, as well as established private and public companies working in the areas of space surveillance, communications, scientific research, advanced materials development, optics, photonics and department of defense work, among others. There are unique advantages to being located in the Park:

  • Environment Created For Growth: MRTP serves as a built-in community which facilitates growth and internal networking and information sharing amongst other park partners enabled by the close proximity to other tech & research companies.

  • Dedicated business team: MEDB is a dedicated team whose focus is to help client companies grow, by offering networking opportunities with local and national business contacts and other support as needed on a fee basis.

  • Competitive Resources: Park companies have access to up-to-date information helping them to remain competitive through its Hawaii-centric business library; professional research librarians; experience in engineering research; as well as specialized business market research in Hawaii and internationally, as well as access to one-on-one business advice from top-notch counselors at the Small Business Development Center.

  • Powerful Connections: Fiber optic cables and SATCOM ground stations for commercial down-links, with an OC48 infrastructure located in the Park.

  • Time Zone Advantage: Hawaii's time zone allows companies to conduct business with Asia and the US East coast in the same business day.

  • Training and Networking Events: Companies in the Park have access to exclusive training and networking events on a wide variety of subjects, relevant to their business. Sample topics include seeking venture capital, intellectual property protection, current technology issues, and business best practices.
Valuable Exposure: MEDB is available to assist park companies with introductions to high-tech leaders, military and government officials, and other VIP visitors from around the globe who visit Maui.

The Park offers fiber optic cables and SATCOM ground stations for commercial down-links, with an OC48 infrastructure located in the Park. The MRTP was the vision of a core group of community leaders in the early 80's and is now the locus for technology activity for the Maui community. Efforts to diversify Maui’s economy by creating the requisite infrastructure was made possible via public/private alliances.

The park currently contains the Maui High Performance Computing Center, Premier Place and the Maui Research & Technology Center. Premier Place is a privately held office building with an array of tenants. Maui Research & Technology Center is a state-owned incubator facility. MEDB is in the process of planning a new facility, presently known as the “Enterprise Building.”
